4K Remastering and the Future of Music Videos
Summer of 2014 something extraordinary happened to me. I was checking in on Tumblr like any other teen at the time and noticed some interesting news. The Japanese techno-pop group Perfume was teaming up with Panasonic to create the groups first ever 4K music video. I was absolutely astonished by the results of this minute and thirty seconds long video! Never in my life have i seen a music video in such crisp quality. Now I have seen some examples of 4k video in the past, but never would I imagine a music video (especially Perfume, who were at the time still uploading 480p videos) being able to translate into such a high quality.%20Perfume%20-%20Display.png)
As time went by I started slowly seeing an increase in music video qualities. Eventually I discovered youtube channels specifically made for digital remastering. Seeing videos that I used to watch in 144p quality transformed into 2160p604k (woah) was mind-blowing, but also a little scary. This made me wonder if music companies would start doing the same, and to my surprise some have
SM entertainment recently started a MV Digital remastering project with the goal of restoring videos from older catalogues. This would include videos for songs such as BoA 'ID; Peace B' H.O.T. 'Age of Violence' and even Girls Generation 'Into the New World'. I also discovered notice people were remastering all different types of videos to youtube!
Digital remastering is still a new community that rapidly growing on youtube. I have even tried to restore Mariah Carey's Honey live performance from her Around the World tour, but unfortunately was not successful. However, I've created a list of youtube channels that post HD and 4K videos! No more 144p! 2022 we're all eating good and watching MV's in the highest quality!
